4th ANNUAL CONFERENCE OF IGCP 526.RISKS, RESOURCES, AND RECORD OF THE PAST ON THE CONTINENTAL SHELVES
The 4th IGCP 526 Conference on"Continental Shelves: Risks, Resources and Record of the Past", will be held in Vigo (Spain), from Sept. 28 to Oct.1st, hosted by the University of Vigo, and organized by the Marine and Environmental Geology Group Geoma.
The conference will includes keynote lectures, invited talks, oral and poster sessions, a field trip and a Short Marine Geology Course for a limited number of PhD students/young researchers.
International Geological Correlation Program (IGCP) is a joint initiative of United Nations Education, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS), aimed to facilitate international collaboration among scientists and to facilitate knowledge and technology transfer among disparate disciplines and regions around the world.
IGCP526 is a 5 years (2007-2011) project aimed to compare and promote continental shelf applied researches based on geosciences but crossing/merging discipline boundaries, with particular emphasis on global issues that influence human society (igcp526.io.usp.br). The project develops around three main axis, i.e. Risks (for people, infrastructures and environment), Resources (minerals and aggregates but also encompassing living resources as far as habitat mapping is concerned) and Record of the Past (paleoclimate, paleonvironment, paleogeography with special reference to early humans civilizations).

Fechas y Sede del Congreso
El congreso se realizará entre los días 27 y 30 de abril de 2009 en el Centro Social Caixanova, situado en la céntrica calle de Policarpo Sanz, nº 24 - 26. El lunes, día 27, a partir de las 08:30 h podrá recogerse la documentación en la sede del congreso.
La ciudad
Vigo es la ciudad más poblada de Galicia, se sitúa en la más meridional de las rías de Galicia la cual lleva su nombre. Es una ciudad industrial y dinámica siendo también el primer puerto pesquero de Europa. Está bien comunicada por carretera y el aeropuerto de Peinador se encuentra a 7 Km de la ciudad. Se puede utilizar también el aeropuerto internacional de Santiago distante a 90 Km y a una hora de viaje por la autopista A-9 o el aeropuerto internacional de Oporto, en Portugal, que queda a hora y cuarto de Vigo también por autopista.
Lenguaje
Las lenguas del congreso serán el Español e Inglés. Los resúmenes pueden ser redactados en cualquiera de ellas.
Comidas
En las proximidades de la sede del congreso hay muchos restaurantes de diferentes categorías para todos los precios y gustos. El horario de las comidas será de 13:30 h a 15:30 h.
